October 2014, Elba… In search of the perfect line.

This year it fell to the island in the Tuscan Archipelago to provide the backdrop for our continued search for the perfect line. Elba Discovery.
As ever, the root for this trip was the desire to bring together a group with the same passion for climbing, but above all, the same desire to brush more boulders and climb more lines than they had done so close to home. And as well as this, they all knew they only had a short time to give these climbs their best shot. Or even better than their best.
This mix of enthusiasm, location and people allowed us to squeeze every moment out of every day, from dawn to dusk, tooling and chalking the west side of the island, the most mountainous area, where Mount Capanna overlooks the sea on both sides.
A whole day for each sector which, after hours of brushing and chopping (when we were being gentle) and just as many hours of attempts, would then translate as names, grades and the occasional chalk line in the evenings.
4 days, 2 completely new sectors, 40 passes, and a completely traditional British route: these are the sole traces we have left on an element that has kept us slaves to our passion.
